Paternity Actions

Paternity Actions

When a child is born out of wedlock, doubts/questions may arise regarding parental responsibilities and rights. For this reason, Paternity actions are filed with the court to determine paternity and in turn determine paternal rights and responsibilities. It is essential to understand that any party may file an action for Paternity, be it the woman or man. Once Paternity is established the court or the parties may establish certain rights and responsibilities that pertain to the parents and the child. These rights and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Time – Sharing/Visitation;
  • Custodial Rights;
  • Parenting-Plan;
  • Child Support; and
  • Inheritance Rights etc.
